A 1,200m² Decathlon store in the heart of Abidjan is what awaits Ivorians on 10 December!
That’s when Decathlon will be opening its first store in Ivory Coast. With a 1,200m² surface area, housing 30 different sports, it’ll be the biggest sports superstore in Abidjan. Featuring prominently in the store will be fitness, running and team sports products. Around twenty employees have already been hired, to welcome the store’s first customers.
Decathlon products were already available in Ivory Coast, sold through the Jumia online retail platform. “This meant we could give it a trial run and adapt to the specific requirements of the Ivorian market” explains Emmanuelle Claude, responsible for coordinating the Decathlon project in Ivory Coast.
An adventure for all of our new employees
But the arrival of Decathlon in a new country is more than just a property or commercial initiative. First and foremost, it’s an initiative about people.“I am really inspired by the spirit that drove Decathlon’s beginnings back in 1976, where employees were recruited primarily to experience an adventure as opposed to just “having a job“, explainsEmmanuelle Claude. “Now I’m looking for employees myself, who also want to lead with me; each and every one is part of this business.”
